The development of an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) demands a lot, from passion and creative resilience to an impeccable network infrastructure. It is exactly at this intersection between the developers’ dream and the players’ experience that the partnership between ExitLag and Lugh World comes to life.

ExitLag’s mission goes far beyond providing the best route and the lowest ping for gamers around the globe. The true purpose is to act as the foundation that connects the ambition of independent studios to the inexhaustible passion of the community.

We know that in a competitive universe, where the timing of a skill or the capture of a rare monster depends on split-second reflexes, the connection can never be an obstacle.

Together, we are building an ecosystem where local talent is valued and the Brazilian player feels truly embraced, proving that Brazil has all the potential to export major titles to the entire world, especially in something considered innovative within its genre.

Exclusive advantages: ExitLag inside Lugh World

To crown this union and take the experience to another level, ExitLag’s technology will not only be present in optimizing your route. We will also have it inside the game itself.

From a personal desire to an ambitious project, Lugh World

The history of Lugh World began over five years ago. Christian and his partner, both coming from the Information Technology (IT) sector, felt something was missing—a very specific type of experience in the gaming market: a 100% online MMORPG based on monster capturing and battling.

“The idea came exactly from the desire to develop the game that we would have liked to have found to play. We didn’t find it, I came from IT, my partner came from IT… and we started developing,” says Christian.

He makes it clear that the intention was never to go head-to-head with the industry titans, but rather to fill a gap. I wasn’t born to compete with these other big companies, but to bring a totally different experience… It’s a niche audience and gameplay experience that, for some reason, these companies didn’t want to offer.”

Today, what started as a two-person night project has transformed into a dedicated team of 12 collaborators, including developers, illustrators, and art directors, all working to expand this universe.

How is a “Lugh” born? The challenge of game design

ExitLag and Lugh World team

One of the most fascinating points of the interview was the explanation of the creative process behind the “Lughs”, the collectible creatures of Lugh World, which are the entire basis of the innovative MMORPG. Christian emphasizes that it’s not enough to have a cool visual idea; everything needs to have a purpose within the story (Lore) and the game’s balance.

The creation process is complex and involves several stages:

  1. Motivation and Game Design: The purpose of the creature is defined (whether it will be focused on attack, defense, etc.).
  2. Art Direction: Creation of sketches and visual concepts.
  3. Approval and Modeling: The art is approved and moves to 3D modeling.
  4. Rigging and Animation: Where the creature gains “life” and movement.
  5. Balancing: The most critical stage, where the creature’s stats are tested in the actual game.

The inspirations are vast. “There are ideas that you clearly see come from bases of our Brazilian fauna, and there are ideas inspired by our daily lives,” reveals Christian, citing the fun example of “Glaziel,” an ice Lugh inspired by his partner’s German Spitz dog.

The power of Early Access and the community

Currently, Lugh World is in Early Access on Steam. For independent studios, this format is not just a way to monetize early; above all, it is a vital development tool.

“A game in Early Access means it is a game still in development… It’s a blank canvas where we assemble and align smaller frames to complete each other,” Christian explains.

The team’s focus is transparency. Lugh World has a public Roadmap (development map), ensuring players that the title will not fall into the “limbo” of lack of updates, a common problem in the indie scene.

The community plays a central role in this blank canvas. It is through constant feedback on Discord and social media that the team fine-tunes the balance. If a Lugh has an attack that is too destructive and breaks the experience, it is the contact with the players that dictates the fix.

“We want the community to help us with this… Along with this feedback, we can have better guidance on where to take the game,” he states.

Far beyond the code: The universe and next steps

An MMORPG does not survive without a solid story foundation. Aware of this, the Lugh World team made a bold decision: to publish a book even before the final release of the game.

The book Lugh World: Origins, made in partnership with Editora Aithos, helps to establish the universe’s Lore, giving meaning to every mission and monster encountered. “Things cannot simply be added without a reason,” Christian argues.

The future of the title is promising and full of news. With Season 1 coming to an end, Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on July 10, bringing dozens of new hours of gameplay, new mechanics (such as the long-awaited fishing system), and new Lughs.

In the long term, the team plans to expand the game to consoles and mobile devices, in addition to removing current access barriers—very strong points and differentiators within the MMORPG ecosystem.
